Pregnancy Education workshop is suitable for any stage of pregnancy, however I encourage women to attend as early as possible.
Pregnancy Education should be essential for all pregnant women because you can:
- Learn about how to keep your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles strong
- Understand how and why to modify exercise in pregnancy
- Be informed about the variety of services that specialising physiotherapists can offer during pregnancy and in the early recovery phase after birth
Antenatal Exercise Classes
Antenatal Fitness Classes are 60 minutes classes designed for women at any stage of pregnancy. These classes are a great option for keeping fit and pain free during your pregnancy. All our classes are safe, Physio-led and rebatable on private health insurance. Please note that an Initial assessment with a Physiotherapist is a pre-requisite and signing off a waver on our registration form that you have received all clear from your health professional (obstetrician, midwife, GP) that is looking after you.
Our exercise classes will assist in improving posture, strength, balance and cardio fitness by focusing on abdominal and pelvic floor muscle health.
Education during all classes will be delivered by Continence and Women’s Health Physiotherapist Natasa Tedman (Master’s Degree in Continence and Women’s Health Physiotherapy)
Postnatal excercise classes
Postnatal Fitness Class is a class aimed at promoting optimal strength, with a specific focus on abdominal and pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation. This is a 60-minute Pilates-style exercise class that you can commence after 6 weeks and up to 12 months post pregnancy, following a check-up with your treating health professional (obstetrician, midwife, GP) and have received an all clear to exercise.
Initial assessment is essential prior to commencing either Antenatal or Postnatal classes. On this appointment conducted by a Women’s Health Physio, your bladder and bowel, pelvic floor muscles, abdominal muscles will be assessed. This enables us to tailor the class to your capability and to minimise worsening of any women’s health related issues such as abdominal muscle separation, incontinence and/or prolapse. For your Initial assessment you will be required to see a physiotherapist that specialises in Women’s Health and conducts pelvic floor assessments via real time ultrasound or vaginal examination when indicated. Please contact us for a list of participating Physiotherapy practises. Please note that the Initial assessment cost is separate from the class cost and it will vary between practices and Physiotherapists. Please attend your Initial assessment appointment with a comfortably full bladder in case you require an ultrasound assessment.
